If There’s Anyone Left

ITAL is a publication that amplifies underrepresented voices in the science fiction genre. I was honored to be asked to create the branding and website for this new venture. We also collaborated on the vision and creation of the publication’s first issue.

Futuristic but grounded

The branding for ITAL was inspired by 20th century space programs and the sci-fi movies I grew up watching like 2001: A Space Odyssey. However, I wanted the font choice to be bold and concise. It is simple and purposeful.

Issue 1

For the cover of the first issue, I was asked to create a scene of an astronaut lost in space and slipping into the foreground. Helping the folks at ITAL enact their vision was incredibly rewarding. The stories are all from up and coming writers from underrepresented communities.

Issue 2

For the cover of the second issue, I was asked to create a cover that easily edited by future editors of the publication. We chose a standard design that would change colors as editions were published. I was inspired by a flight manual from the 1960s for this design.
